Iridium Flares App Reviews

Great App

This is an excellent app and it works great. Update Note: there is a workaround to the bright color scheme issue. From developer "use the built in White on Black feature. You can enable this in: Settings - General - Accessibility - Triple-click Home.". Important to make this setting toggles by three clicks of the home key..as otherwise the iPad color scheme is really odd for everything else. I will however add my voice to the many others here about the bright color scheme. Please add an option for a dark color scheme (or even a special black/red night vision mode). As it is currently I can no longer use this app during star parties as Ill have my eyes poked out by everyone for ruining their dark adaptation.

Must Have App

I love this app. Thanks so much for the updates.

Direction of travel

Really enjoy the app. One thing Im missing, however, is an indication of which direction the sat. will be traveling (north to south, or south to north). This info is available on Heavens Above and it is helpful in determining where to look to visually acquire the sat. early in its passage. Hope Im not just overlooking how to find this on the app. Thanks.

Great app, great fun

Ive used this app many times to spot flares and its always been spot on. With the countdown timer and built in compass its a breeze to pop out and catch a flare even on a cold winter night. My one item to add to the wish list would be to add a direction of orbit marker. Even though you get to know most of the satellites and their orbits after many viewings, it would still be handy and currently available from the same site used for time and location. Thanks for app, easy recommendation for me.

Great app, have a couple feature requests

This app is excellent and does what its supposed to do. It tells me when a flare is, where to look for it, and where to be to get the best view. My feature requests are these: I would love to be able to save more than one location in the app. Because it would be sweet to be able to tell my friend across the country when and where she should look outside to see a flare. It would also be really nice if the flares path could be displayed indefinitely in each direction on the map, and not just the immediate proximity around the point of closest approach to me. That would make it easier to plan where to go to get the best view. Otherwise, great job! :-)

No Current Location?

This is totally useless since it does not use your current location. You have to manually enter your Latitude and Longitude which is absurd. It wont even give you the coordinates of your current location. I cant believe they are selling it like this.

Perfection

Fantastic iPad ap. Everything you need to know right in front of you, simple to use, easy to read, and good screen graphics too!

Well... This was a waste.

The program does nothing but tell me: Error Connecting The website is currently unreachable. No clue about what website, no hints about why its unreachable (since Im entering this, obviously I have network access) just endless repetitions of the error message. I installed the app last night at the Peach State Star Gaze in Georgia in hopes of catching a flare or two. The only thing the app has told me is "Error Connecting" for the last 12 hours. Using an iPad 2 with IOS 6.

Failing to connect to the website

Unable to connect to the website to update data . I would suggest not purchasing this app

Great App!

The new update fixes the Heavens Above connection problem, so its back to greatness! Accurate info, quickly and usefully presented, and I dont want to be without it.

Cannot connect to server

Ive got the 2.2.1 update but I still get "Error. Unable to connect to sever." This has been going on for at least a week. Sad face.

Stopped working. Was once quite good.

Slick app. Straight-forward, and effective. Makes planning a flare sighting easy. Problem: now the server it is dependent upon is not responding. And, instead of gracefully degrading the app user experience, now it simply crashes. Every time.

Great App when its working.

Still hit & miss when connecting to server. great App when it is working though. Five STARS and a BRIGHT flare.

Serious server problems

Was one of my favorite apps, but these days it freezes more often than not. Either fix the server problem or stop supporting the app.

Crashing

Crashes within a few seconds every time.

More work.

*Needs Ability to select miles vs kilometers. This is a no brainer. *Needs more robust and flexible scheduling capabilities. For instance, instead if alerting to any one specific event, allow the ability to select ANY/ALL flare events - for a given location - with a pre-warning (already present in app), and with a configurable intensity threshold for the events - to skip low intensity level events! (Already done graphically with a multiple bar gauge - but should be worked into the alerting scheme). Remember, this app THRIVES on its alert configurability! Having said all this, it will be THE best Iridium app soon. I have them all.

Magnitude is broken

Or perhaps the author simply doesnt understand it. As a result, the lower intensity depicted by the bar graph, the _brighter_ the object will appear. This is because the bar graph tracks the absolute value of the predicted mag, ignoring sign. Clearly that is incorrect behavior.

Not happy

Since the upgrade, the app will not load flares. States none are found...

Gréât update

easy to use !

It works

This app works as advertised, its very precise and completely stable.. Why pay anyone else?
