Iridium Flares App Reviews

Not useful, and many problems

This application has many problems. If theres no GPS signal, it doesnt start (unless one goes to preferences and disable GPS, and manually enters coordinates). The manual coordinates cannot be filled in from the GPS, why not ? There is no count down timer until a pass (why not ?). There is no precise clock display (with seconds), why not ? The application has crashed many times on my latest 3GS 3.1.3 iPhone. This app would be OK if it was free, but not for a paying app ! Stay away from it. Better off by directly bookmarking heavens-above in Safari !

Simple, easy

This app provides just the information you need quickly and easily. Saw my first flare last night thanks to this app. It would be nice to make it easier to change the observing location, though (I couldnt figure out how to do it).

Spot on ! Very Accurate predictions , great App

Thanks a lot for this great App, I tried it in Northern USA and Europe and had great spotting each time. A VR option would make this a killer app for iridium flares spotting, but even without it, it is by far my favorite. Thanks a lot !

Problem

It does not refresh and I cant reinstall it. "Error to reload the flares".

Lots of flares missing, no alarms

Compared to the flare predictions on CalSky, a lot of flares are missing, even very bright ones. This seems to be a problem with HeavensAbove, from which the app gets its data, but anyway. The app should also support alarms, so that flares are not missed. Another cool feature (hope someones reading this), if it automatically used local weather info, e.g. to supress alarms if it is cloudy.

Perfekt

Funktioniert perfekt! Es fehlt nur der automatische Refresh.

Surprise your girl with a personal star !

Funny gadget to surprise your friends with a personal star. App works perfectly.

Does NOT work any more

It was just perfekt and stopped working. Promissed update is missing since weeks! What a pitty

Nice, but needs improvments.

Fine at aggregating flare info from heavens above. Would be nice to integrate an alarm or countdown including azimuth and elevation info. (so that within a set amount of time before a flare an alert indicates when and where to look.) It would also be handy to have a simple guide for estimating elevations (e.g. 3 fingers for 5 degrees, a fist width for 10 degrees.)

Nice app... bad choice of colors

Although the application works very well... its not really useful to have the opening screen (and results screen) with a bright white background. Its hard enough to get our eyes adapted to the dark for astronomy, having this screen flash brightly into our eyes doesnt help.

Great App

Just a wonderful little app that helps find out when good flares are coming up. Keep up the good work!

Crashes at startup

Stopped working month ago and nobody cares.

Non funziona

A me non va proprio, mi dice locatio could not be found

Even better now!

Iridium flares is even better now that it supports high resolution screens such as on the iPhone 6s and 6s plus. If you dont have this app get it and use it to see these strange and fascinating lights in the sky. You wont regret it.

I love it

It was a little confusing at first but its great

Great app!

The Iridium satellite system continues to be a technical marvel, and from what I know, they have finally become a business success as well. An Iridium phone works anywhere on the planets surface - even in polar regions, at sea, or on the top of a mountain. Visible flares are a wonderful byproduct as the satellites are only about 480 miles away, and travel around the planet in 100 minutes - or about 10 minutes horizon to horizon. This app does a great job of telling you where to look to find them - and it works outside at night rather than the website! Great job.

Very Cool

So I havnt yet seen one yet because its been too cloudy but once I do I am going to be soooo happy! LOL Cool for all the info it tells so you know where to look in the sky. Definately workh the .99 cents!

A Very Useful Little App

It saves having to go to the Heaven-Above site, log-in and check out what flares are scheduled for that night at your location. Observing these flares has always been an enjoyable experience, but remembering to do so on clear nights has been a deterrent. With this app you can make it a habit to check the schedule each night. An app well worth getting.

Love the app but update unstable on iPhone 3G

Wont launch successfully half the time. Instead it dumps me back to the home page contianing the app icon. Does same thing, also half the time, when clicking on a flare summary instead of giving me flare details. When it works its great but the update makes that problematic. I did write the developer today. 12-March-2009

Simple App

Simple app does what it promises. I used it to observe a flare on the same evening I bought it. Flare was exactly where the app said it would be. Suggestion to the developer- please make it so that chosen events can be exported to Calendar. Ill add another star for that feature. Thanks!
